BunjilView was recently invited to contribute to a landmark report by the University of Queensland’s Sustainable Minerals Institute (SMI) titled “Drone technology and Indigenous Australians: A scan of current uses.” The research highlights how First Nations organisations are moving beyond simple aerial photography to lead the way in complex land stewardship and cultural preservation. A key focus of BunjilView’s involvement was the critical issue of Indigenous Data Sovereignty—ensuring that the high-fidelity geospatial data collected on Country remains under the governance and ownership of Traditional Owners. By contributing our technical expertise to this scan, BunjilView continues to advocate for protocols that empower communities to use advanced technology as a tool for self-determination and long-term environmental management.
